~noka County B~lSlness As~lstanc_e ~etwork (_ACBAN)

This project also surfaced in the Partnerships strategic I~lanning process.
It was concluded that the greatest employment growth in the county would
most likely come from emerging or growing small businesses. Statistics
show however, that almost 80% of all small businesses fail before they
reach their fifth year. There are many public and private organizations
that presently provide various levels of assistance to small business.
These include vocational technical institutes, colleges and universities,
Score/ACE, and a multitude of state and federal agencieS and programs.
This assistance however is not well utilized by most small businesses
because they. either do not know of its existance or if they do, who to
contact. Tl~e concept behind ACBAN is to create a one-stop small business
assistance resource center for small businesses now located in or desiring
to locate in Anoka County. The Partnership is currently working with
several county Chambers of Commerce, Anoka Vocational Technical
Institute, Anoka Ramsey Community College, several cities, development
companies and others in an effort to develop a coordinated efficient and
highly usable program to assist small businesses. To our knowledge this
will be the first comprehensive county-wide effort of its kind.

The Partnership l~as been Involved in various smatler projects and is also
assisting several smaller communities located in Anoka County to
structure economic development programs. If you have any questions or
comments regarding any of the Partnerships projects, please call or write
to~

Roger Jensen
Executive Director
Anoka County Economic Development Partnership
299 Coon Rapids Boulevard Suite 12
Coon Rapids, MN 55433
(612)786-0869
