2) Commissioner / Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

Mayor Gamec stated he feels this is one of the nicest things the City does for the commissioners
and volunteers. In the past few years the dinner has been very well done. He explained Assistant
City Administrator Nelson would like direction as to if the dinner should be continued in the
present format or if something different should be considered. He inquired of the actual cost for
the dinner.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied the cost of the last dinner was $4,365. The dinner is
budgeted for $4,000 this year.

Councihnember Pearson stated the dinner is budgeted for, and it is one of the best things they do.
The commissioners need to feel they are appreciated and this is well worth the few dollars that
are spent.

Councilmember Cook indicated he does not believe changing the dinner would be good. The
dinner is something he and his wife looked forward to when he was on the commission.

Councihnember Elvig asked how many people are served at the dinner.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied about 110 people were served at the last two events.

Councilmember Elvig commented for $4,000 the dinner is one of the best investments that can
be made.

Councilmember Kurak stated she agrees with Councilmember Elvig. However, she is worried
about the $4,000 budget, as there will be more people in attendance this year.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson indicated staff will try to find good entertainment and
manage their costs. She suggested the Anoka High School Orchestra could perform, and a
nominal contribution could be made to the orchestra.

Councilmember Strommen stated this is a good suggestion. It is nice to support the local young
talent and they can save a little on the entertainment.

Consensus of the City Council was to direct staff to schedule the 2004 Commissioner/Volunteer
Appreciation Dinner for Monday, April 26, 2004 for a 6:00 p.m. social hour and 7:00 p.m. dinner
at Majestic Oaks in Ham Lake with a cost not to exceed $4,000.

Mayor Gamec requested staff also check the cost of holding the dinner at the Courtyards in
Andover.

City Council Work Session/February 10, 2004
Page 3 of 5
