MEMORANDUM

DATE:

TO:

CC:

Decem~)er 11, 1992

Mayor and Ci~' Council

Ryan Sehroeder, City Administrator
ICa>, McAloney, Personnel Cc~rdinatcrr
James Gmmberg, Project Manager

FROM: Karn~ey Economic Development Commi.~sion fi'P'('"""

RE: R. eappointment of Commissioners and the Make-up of the
R.a.mgey Economic Development Commission

At the December 9, !992 R. amsey Economic Development Commission meeting, the following
recommendations were made.:

1) To reappoint Commissioner Wa~er to a term set to expire on January 31, 1995.

2) To reappoint Commissioner Nelson to a term set to expire on January 31, 1995.

3) To reappoint Commissioner Vevea to a term set to expire on January 31, 1995.

You will note that the third recommendation is controversial in the fa~t that Commissioner Vevea is
a non-resident business owner in the CW of Rarnsey. As the EDC has indicated in t. he past., they
feel it is extremely import, am, as a body, to provide fo[ input fi-om the business community
concerning the operation of business in Ramsey regardless of thek resident shams. It is with this
regard that they respectfully request the adoption of the aw:ached ordinance amending Chapter 2 of
the Ramsey C/t3, Cod, to allow for up to four members of the Bgonorn~c Development Commission
to be non-resident members who own businesses or commercial prope.rry logated withLr, the CiV of
Ramsey. The F..DC feels that this will allow for well balance.~, unbiased input fi-om fiae Ramsey
business communit3, as to how problems in the Cie3, should be handled and how the City gan
faciiimte furore growth and development.

Th/s amendment to Chapter 2 of the Ramsey CiD' Code Mil also prevent the City fi'om giving the
impression that it cares oniy that businesses logate into Kamsey wi~out allowing them to voice
opinions on business-related issues. The EDC encourages members of Ci~, Council to conta:t
them concerning this issue as they feel very strongly that the Cie3, must make certain changes to
pro',Sde for fumm ~m-owth and economic stabiliry.
