CASE #3

CHANGE MEETING TIME OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
By: James Gromberg, Project Manager

Background:

At the last meeting the members of the EDC brought up the question of changing the meeting time
to evening. There are some evenings available for the EDC to meet. Listed below is the current
meeting schedule:

City Council:
Planning and Zoning Commission:
Board of Adjustment:
Park and Recreation Commission
Horse Care Board
Fire Department
Charter Commission
Fire Board

2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month; 7:00 p.m.
1st Tuesday of each month: 7:30 p.m.
4th Thursday of each month; 7:30 p.m.
2nd Thursday of each month; 7:00 p.m.
3rd Tuesday, as needed
2nd Wednesday; 7:00 p.m.
As needed
As needed

There are some advantages to meeting in the morning. The main advantage is that the meetings are
limited to a certain time length, this helps the meetings from digressing down any particular tangent
that may or may not be relevant.

However, because a majority of City meetings are conducted in the evening, this may explain why
the EDC has difficulty attracting applicants. In the past, we have discussed waiting until the new
members are seated to change the time and date of the meeting. However, we as a group may want
to make those changes now and advertise that fact to boost interest.

Recommendation:

Based upon discussion, the regular meeting time of the Economic Development Commission may
or may not change.

Reviewed by:

Project Manager

EDC: 12/8/93
