CASE #

REQUEST AUTHORIZATION FOR ANNUAL PET CLINIC
By: Ryan R. Schroeder, City Administrator

Background:

Each spring, the City of Ramsev holds a pet clinic whereby residents mav bring their dogs
;ma cals in for rabies shot~, ET~. at a reduced ram. In me past me Citw has requested biCls
from me Rum River Veteritmry Chmc and me AM\rET - Elk River Animal Hospital. As of
1993, Ramsey Animal Hospital opened up in the City of Ramsey: therefore. Staff will
solicit a bid from them also.

It has been suggestext the clinic De held on Satur~y, Ma)' 1, 1993 which is tine same day as
the Environmental Expo and the Tree Sale.

The only direct cost the CiD, incurs with regard to the pet clinic is the publication cost of
advertising for bids which is approximately $36.00.

Observation:

The following ideas/concerns have come up since the last pet clinic:

1)

Should the hours of operation of the clinic be extended? The hours in the past have
been 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

2)

Lines too long: Should two pet clinics be scheduled with the idea that persons with
the last name beginning with A through K come to the first ctinic and L through Z
come to the second clinic. Would it then be on separate davs or just separate times
I,-.,.'~ '~ morning and afternoon). OR - maybe it's ·r)ossi~le to have more lines
administering the shots, etc.

Concerns for children: Residents have expressed a concern about the clinic being
held at Cenn-al Park because of the presence of excess dog feces where children are
piaying. Staff suggested possibly a "clean-up" person be present during the clinic.

4.)

Voiunt~rs: Councii must determine if City employees working the clinic will be on
a smictiv volunteer basis t meaning no pay or compensation) or would it be for
sn-aight time meaning if the empioyee pians to work four hours at the clinic, he/she
must take four hours off dm-lng the work week or some other wax,.

Council Action:

· ~' -' '"i'~" ~ ~ ~ Ci~nic for May
Morion to rezommenc City Counz5 aumorlze CiT' StzS~ ro s,.n~.a,.~,, m,. ~-'? '

Morion to recommend Ciw Council authorize SraJ~f to uroc~d with tfians for the annual Pet
cimic which would include soliciting bids. advemsing, ere.

Adm-:ss al'. conce.ms listed above.

Reviewed by: Copies also distributed to:

,.~- Aamamsmator
BC: 0i/26/95

. ,.. sonm, Coordinator
Finance Officer

II
