Case

RAMSEY RESIDENT NEWSLETTER
By: Kay McAloney, Personnel Coordinator

Background:

Ms. Crystal Bennek from "Express Advertising and Printing Services" (Express) contacted
me regarding the monthly Ramsey Resident Newsletter. She has been approached by
several Ramsey business owners wanting to place ads in our City Newsletter, which we
currently do not do. Express is located in Anoka and currently represents the cities of
Andover for 2 1/2 years, Dayton for 1 year and Champlin for 2 years. There would be no
cost for the newsletter other than the cost of postage. They offer 1 week turnaround time,
deliver our copies to our door, pick up the check for postage and drop the check and
newsletter at the post office. Our current turnaround time is approximately 2 weeks.
Express has graphics, as does our current vendor. There would be at most 50%
advertising and 50% news. Advertising would never be more than 50%, and usually
closer to 35% - 40%. The Express newsletter is printed on newspaper material rather than
the current sixty pound paper.

Even though Express would contact businesses for advertising, the City of Ramsey is in
charge of the paper. We would determine what goes in, where it goes, etc. There are
many other questions yet to be answered, but if the Committee is interested staff will
proceed for answers.

Recommendation:

For discussion only.

Committee Action:

For discussion only.

Review Checklist:

City Administrator
Finance Officer
Personnel Coordinator

FC:2/23/93
