c^s£ # CttANGE IN 1993 COMMUNITY SCHOOL BUDGET DUE TO 180 NOTIFICATION REQUIREMENT IN JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT By: Jessie L. Hart, Finance Officer BACKGROUND: The Ramsey City Council approved with the 1993 budget, $I2,000 funding for the Community Education Program. At some point in time, after the 1993 budget was adopted, a change was requested in the service level that was to be provided by thc school district for the Community Education Programs. This change was to have a Community School Coordinator rather than an Assistant Community School Coordinator. There is a stipulation in the joint powers agreement that either party must notify the other of changes in service by giving at least 180 days notification or January 1. The 180 day deadline was extended to February 1, 1993 and this one month extension resulted in an additional cost of $1,900. On June 21, 1993, the City of Ramsey received a billing for the first half of the 1993 Community School Programs. (Auachment 1) The total billing for 1993 was indicated as $14, 508. This amount includes the actual 1993 cost of $12,608 (original}y budgeted $12,000) and the additional $1,900 for the one month extension. In addition to this billing, we have received a request for 1994 funding of the programs, at the service level that is currently being provided. (Attachment 2) Based on the circumstances outlined in this letter regarding the cost of services, it is anticipated that the cost would increase to $13,746 for 1994, an increase of $1,I38 or 9% over the actual cost for 1993 of $12,608. COMM[TIEE ACTION: Recommend that Council authorize the payment of the billing of $12,608 for the 1993 Community Education Program, and Recommend that Council authorize thc payment of thc $1,900 for the extension of the 180 day notification, and 3.
