Background:

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Coordinator

CASE #

As a result of City Council's and the Park and Recreation Commission's desire to institute
a formal resident participant and volunteer program, a Community Service Award Program
has evolved.

In October, City Council adopted the Commission's three-tiered recognition program,
which in most cases would entail the following:

I)

Present volunteer with a personalized certificate. (This will occur upon completion
of the activity.

The volunteer will be acknowledged publicly via the Ramsey Resident Newsletter
and Cable TV. (This also will occur near the time of the activity's completion.)

An official announcement, annually, which will include all volunteers. (This could
be done in conjunction with the Environmental Expo and Arbor Day celebration and
also possibly at a City Council meeting.)

Observation:

In this season of giving and reflection of the year's events, it seems timely that we
recognize the individuals and organizations that have contributed to Ramsey's success as a
top notch suburban community. (Incidentally, Saxon Printing of Anoka donated the 200
forms we ordered! !)

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends adopting the Community Service Award.

Council Action:

Motion to adopt Resolution g92-XX Adopting the Community Service Award Program.

and -

Motion to ac ~knowledge the following volunteers: (Please read the list for the public)

Beth Mitchell
· First Chair of Ramsey's Citizens Tree Committee.
· Represented Ramsey in I992ts Urban Forestry Workshop and contributed a significant
amount of time to Ramsey's Tree Sale and Environmental Expo.

Tom Patchen
· Photo documentation of Environmental Expo and Tree Sale.

Cub Scout Pack 376: Paul Couture
· Arbor Day seedling planting with Scouts at the 30 acre Municipal Center.
