POLICY OF RIGHT-OF-WAY MOWING
(Proposed 8/6/93)

Preamble

City fight-of-way generally encompasses an area known as terrace which comprises the
area between the back of curb or edge of pavement and the adjacent property line. This
terrace area accommodates a number of important public functions which include:
accommodating parking, snow storage, utilities drainage, sight distances and a pedestrian
safety zone from traffic. Tall vegetation can substantially interfere with the above functions
and it is for this reason that the City adopts this policy to ensure that terrace section of the
City rights-of-way.

Policy

Property owners shall be primarily responsible for mowing the terrace portion of the right-
of-way where said right-of-way would be reasonably considered an extension of the
property owners lawn. Property owners shall not be responsible for mowing median or
terrace areas along wetlands or natural areas.

The Public Works Department will mow medians and terraces along wetlands or natural
areas on the following frequency: Collector and arterial roads will be mowed a minimum
of three times per year, generally before June 1, August 1 st and October 1. Remaining
residential roadways will be mowed a minimum of once per year, generally before July 30.

/O
