In a review of the net premium cost plus cost of deductibles the City would have incurred for the years of
1988 through 1992, the statistics indicate that over the previous five years the City would have realized
the lowest cost for workers' compensation at the deductible level of $10,000 per occurrence. However,
as our fire department didn't become fully operational until 1990, and we have experienced increases in
staff (therefore exposure), the statistics are simply a record of our past and not necessary an indicator of
the future.

Staff Recommendation:

It is recommended the City request coverage with the League of Minnesota Cities Self-Insured Workers'
Compensation Plan for 1993 at a premium cost of $58,620 less $2,574 which represents a deductible per
occurrence in the amount of $500.

Council Action:

Motion to direct the City Administrator to sign the application for coverage with the League of Minnesota
Cities requesting 1993 workers' compensation coverage with a deductible of $500.00 per occurrence.

Review Checklist:
City Administrator

CC: 01/12/93 Updated
