Street Improvements

Because of its need to handle commercial traffic it is proposed that 143rd Avenue N.W. east of
Xkimo Street N.W. be constructed as a standard seven ton design for a residential street with a 30
foot width having surmountable concrete curb and gutter and bituminous pavement. The
bituminous pavement shall be a minimum of two inches thick with four inches of Class V base.
Xkimo Street N.W. between ]42nd and 143rd Avenues N.W. shall consist of a 42 foot wide street
with surmountable concrete curb and gutter on the eastern residential side and a B-6/12 curb along
the west side. The pavement shall be constructed with four inches of bituminous and four inches
of Class V base sufficient to maintain a nine-ton road design standard. Also because of the
potential for commercial development on the west side of Xkimo Street N.W., it is proposed that a
five foot wide concrete sidewalk be placed along the west side of Xkimo Street N.W. from 142nd
Avenue N.W. to 143rd Avenue N.W, Xkimo Street N.W. will be improved for a distance of
approximately 60 feet beyond the intersection with 143rd Avenue N.W. A total of five street lights
will be placed along 143rd Avenue N.W. and Xkimo Street N.W. Following completion of the
aforementioned street improvements, the terrace area behind the curb will be spread with a
minimum of four inches of black dirt, seeded, fertilized and mulched to establish turf.

PRO.IECT COST

A detailed estimate of construction costs are presented in Appendix A. In addition to the
construction costs, overhead costs include engineering, construction staking and inspection, legal,
administration, interest during construction and contingencies. The overhead costs for the project
are estimated based upon percentages of construction cost. Those percentages are estimated to be
as follows:

Engineering
Staking and Inspection
Bonding and Legal
City Staff Adminisu-ation
Contingencies
Interest during construction

5%
7%
3%
5%
8%
2%

Table 1 contains a summary of total project costs which have been divided between construction
and overhead costs and also categorized between direct costs attributable to project g93-10 and
those costs which have been attributable to oversizing. An eight inch sanitary sewer and an eight
inch waterrnain are considered lateral size mains. Improvements oversized beyond these lateral
sizes are eli~ble for funding from a sewer and water trunk fund.

TABLE 1
RIVER'S BEND 3RD ADDITION
ESTIMATED PROJECT COST

.Improvement

IP #93-10 Cost Trunk/MSA Cost Total Project Cost

Sanitary Sewer
Watermain
Storm Sewer
Street Improvement
Construction Cost Total
Overhead @ 30%
Total Project Cost

17,390 390 17,780
26,295 4,755 31,050
31,525 -0- 31,525
36,063 13,116 49,179
111,273 18,261 129,534
33,382 5,478 38,860
144,655 23,739 168,394

2
