COUNCIL BUSINESS

Case#l: Public Hearing/Introduce Ordinance for Street Name Changes
Aveune and 146th Avenue with Sunfish Lake Estates
Presentatiou

to 145th

City Engineer Jankowski explained with the platting of the Village of Sunfish Lake it has
become apparent that the two numbered streets (145th Avenue and 146th Avenue) in the adjacent
Sunfish Lake Estates subdivision are not correctly named in accordance with the county street
naming grid system. 146th Avenue in the new subdivision is a continuation of that same street in
the Chestnut 3''a subdivision. Within the new subdivision the appropriately named 146th Lane
which lies north of 146th Avenue now is directly across from 145th Avenue in the Sunfish Lake
Estates subdivision. Also, 146th Avenue within the Sunfish Lake Estates subdivision actually
falls on the 147t~' Avenue grid. This may be problematic for both the public and emergency
services in locating addresses within the area.

City Engineer Jankowski advised to correct this situation both of the numbered streets within the
Sunfish Lake Estates subdivision should be renamed; 145t~, Avenue to 146th Lane, and 146th
Avenue to 147th Avenue. Within this subdivision there are no street addresses on 146t~' Avenue,
however, the renaming of 146th Avenue would change the street name of seven existing
residences. The City has renamed streets in the past for reasonable cause. In 2002, portions of
153''d and 155th Avenues were renamed as Alpine Boulevard, and on January 1st of this year
Industry Avenue was renamed Bunker Lake Boulevard. Staff'recommends that the City Council
direct that an ordinance be prepared renaming 155th Avenue and 156th Avenue in the Sunfish
Lake Estates subdivision to 146th Avenue and 147th Avenue, respectively.

Mayor Gamec closed the regular portion of the City Council meeting at 7:13 p.m. in order to
conduct a public bearing.

Public Hearing

Mayor Gamec called the public hearing to order at 7:13 p.m.

Citizen Input

Tl'lel'e was i'lOlle.

City Engineer Jankowski noted the City received a written comment expressing concern
regarclin g th e recommended changes.

Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Strommen, to close the
public hearing.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Strommen, Cook,
Elvig, Kurak, and Pearson. Voting No: None.

City Council/March 23, 2004
