I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

CASE #

PROPOSED RENAMING OF SUNFISH LAKE DRIVE. N.W.
BY James Gromberg, Project Manager

Background:

The City is in the process of developing a roadway which will cross a large section of the
City to the south of the City Hall. This roadway is currently referred to as Sunfish Lake
Drive N.W. This name does lead to some confusion with Sunfish Lake Blvd. N.W.
(County Road #57). The City conducted a public hearing on August 24, 1993 to receive
input from residents. The City has received the following suggested names for this
roadway:

Thorne Drive
Scroggins Road
Sunny Ponds Drive

The proposed renaming of this roadway was on the September 14, 1993 Council agenda.
The proposed renaming of 153rd Avenue N.W. was also on that agenda and will be
discussed at a later date.

When Council decides upon a new name for this Sunfish Lake Drive N.W., the following
schedule would be followed for the renaming and new addresses to be assigned:

7

1) Public hearing conducted to receive input from residents

August 24, 1993

2) City Council chooses a name for the roadways

August 24, 1993 or
September 14, 1993
September 28, 1993

3) City Council introduces Ordinance to rename the
roadway.

September 28, 1993

4) City Council adopts Ordinance to rename the
roadway

October 12, 1993

5) Ordinance takes effect

November, 12, 1993

6) Name change takes effect

January 1, 1995

During this period, as with all address changes, the residents with addresses along the
roadway would be notified and assisted with the changing of their address. As the above
schedule indicates, the actual change will not happen until 1995 which should allow
sufficient time for new checks and drivers license changes.

Recommendation/Suggestion:

Council is aware of the limited public response to this request for input. Such being the
case, Staff is suggesting that Sunfish Lake Drive be renamed Sunwood Drive N.W. While
this name has not been suggested by the public, it is noted that the road originates at
Sunfish Lake and goes through Wood Pond Hills and Sunny Pond subdivisions plus
provides access to the Wood Pond projects. It is recommended that the name include Drive
