I
I
I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
!
I
I
!
I
!
I
!
I

CASE #

COMMENDATION TO TERRY AND TARA GOODWIN
By: Police Chief Michael Auspos

Background:

On July 31, 1993, at 11:40 p.m., Ramsey residents Terry and Tara Goodwin observed a
vehicle pull up to a model home near their home. The vehicle did not have it's lights on.
Suspecting something was amiss, Mr. Goodwin called 911 to alert the police.

In the interim, before the police arrived, the vehicle left and Mr. Goodwin followed it into
Coon Rapids, obtaining further information. While the police were following up on this,
Mrs. Goodwin saw the same vehicle return to the model home, enter the garage and close
the door. This time the police arrived and, with the assistance from Anoka, located a
person hiding inside the model home. Subsequently, not only was property that had been
taken in the fa'st trip recovered and further theft at that home foiled, but a large quantity of
appliances, fixtures, cabinets, doors and other home building supplies was recovered.
These other thefts had occurred as far away as Maple Grove and other communities. Part
of the "haul" was recovered from a completely filled, rented storage garage in Coon
Rapids.

Thanks to the Goodwin's willingness to become involved in the security of their
neighborhood and the community, a crime was prevented and several others solved. While
Mr. Goodwin went one further step (following the suspec0 than we recommend citizens go
because of personal safety concerns, the rest of the actions of Terry and Tara Goodwin set
an example for all citizens.

I have asked Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin to be present here tonight to receive recognition from
the Council and the community in the form of a written commendation.

Council Action:

To personally thank the Goodwin's for their community spirit and to present them with the
formal commendation.

Reviewed by:

Police Chief
City Adminismttor

CC: 10/26/93
