INTERIM <br /> <br />FIVE YEAR <br />FORESTRY <br /> <br />OPERATIONAL PLAN <br />1994 1998 <br /> <br />The most important operational occurrence within the five 5'ear time line will be defining the City's <br />role in managing the community forest. This "vision" ;;,ill be completed in 1994. 1993 was a year <br />for significant progress in forestry, related community development; the largest Annual Tree Sale <br />and Environmental Expo to date, completion of a forest cover type a.nd inventor'3,, the beginning of <br />an Gale wilt control program, institutionalizing n-ee planting in new subdivisions and procurement <br />of tens of thousands in external dollars for maintenance and development of our community forest. <br />With regard to the results of the forest inventory, there are many trends and indicators that are yet <br />to be assessed. These findings will also help to shape the operations of our forestry, function. One <br />alarming statistic pointed to an 8% decline in wooded area since I979, when a similar study was <br />completed. This finding alone should suggest that we become more pro-active and actually begin <br />managing Ramsey's critical natural resources. <br /> <br />Some of the following ma), be multi-year activities like oak wi.ir corm-Gl or ma), be repeated such as <br />the Environmental Expo and Annual Tree Sale. tn most cases, these items are only mentioned in <br />one year. <br /> <br />Goals and strategies are developed with forestry intern.
