BUSINESS PARK MONUMENT SIGNAGE
By: Sean Sullivan, Economic Development / TIF Specialist

Background:

The City of Ramsey has spent a great deal of money and time on constructing and redeveloping its industrial
parks. The City continues to grow and is trying to establish an identity for itself and it would make sense to
attach its namesake to successful projects within the City. Other cities in the suburbs have the entrances to their
industrial parks labeled with signs designating the park name and entrances. It is a nice finishing touch and it
adds to establishing a positive identity to the City of Ramsey. We are not Anoka and it is good to differentiate
ourselves from our neighbors to establish a unique identity.

Observations:

It is a generally accepted practice that it is not a good idea to "toot you own horn" when it comes to
accomplishments in the field of economic development. Landmark signs are not an effort to self actuate, they
are a way to add prestige or finishing touch to a successful or ongoing development project. The thoroughfare
of Bunker Lake Boulevard will serve as a major artery for those that will be traveling to and from Town Center
in the future. It is imPortant for people en route to Town Center to know that Ramsey is a good mix between
retail, residential, agricultural, and commercial properties. Monument signs located at the entrances of the
industrial parks located adjacent to Bunker Lake Boulevard will be a great way to advertise Ramsey to
prospective businesses and to passersby. Cost associated with these type signs will need to be researched and
strategies related to the signs themselves will be needed. It is important to have input from the EDA in this
project so that the business interest in the City or Ramsey can be truly reflected. Our industrial parks are
something the City of Ramsey can be proud of and adding the proper finish to them only helps to establish a
positive identity for our City.

Recommendation:

Based on discussion

Review Checklist:

City Administrator, Jim Norman
Associate Plmmer, Megan Wald

EDA: 04.19.04

P. 13
