Meeting Date: 06/23/2015 By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative Services Information Title Adopt Resolution #15-06-156 to Hire Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers Purpose/Background: The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire two seasonal employees in Public Works. In May the City Council authorized staff to hire nine Public Works Seasonals. Unfortunately, two of the nine employees are no longer employed with the City; as a result, staff is now requesting to fill the two vacancies in order to perform work in the Parks Division. The process to fill these positions includes an open competitive recruitment process, interviews, background checks, pre-employment testing, City Council approval to hire and on -boarding. Staff selected two qualified entry level seasonal candidates. Both candidates have passed the pre-employment screenings and staff recommends hiring. Notification: N/A Observations/Alternatives: Option #1 To move ahead with hiring the selected 2015 Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers. Option #2: Not moving ahead with hiring the Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers. Staff does not recommend this option due to the inability to meet the highly labor intensive seasonal work demands in the Public Works Department. Funding Source: The funding required to fill these positions is included within the approved 2015 budget. Recommendation: Staff recommends option #1 above, hiring the following 2015 Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers: 1) Austin Gordon at $9.50 per hour effective on or near June 18, 2015, and 2) Kelsey Field at $9.50 per hour effective on or near June 22, 2015. Action: Motion to adopt resolution #15-06-156 to hire the following employees: 1) Austin Gordon at $9.50 per hour effective on or near June 18, 2015, and 2) Kelsey Field at $9.50 per hour effective on or near June 22, 2015.
