1. Water supply planning is an integral component of long-term regional and local comprehensive <br />planning. <br />2.An understanding of the region's long-term water supply availability and demand is necessary to <br />identify a specific community's or sub -region's water sources. <br />3.AII hydrologic system components, naturally occurring and man-made, must be carefully <br />evaluated when making water infrastructure plans. <br />4.The quality of the region's water is a critical component of water supply planning. <br />5.Inter-jurisdictional cooperation is a viable option for managing short-term water supply <br />disruptions and sustainably meeting long-term water supply needs. <br />6. Regional and local cost-effectiveness and fair cost-sharing are considered when identifying water <br />supply options. <br />7. Wise use of water supplies is critical to ensuring adequate supplies for future generations. <br />Policies <br />The Master Water Supply Plan provides information and guidance to support the implementation of <br />the Council's water supply -related policies, found in the Water Resources Policy Plan, guided by the <br />principles above: <br />Policy on Sustainable Water Supplies. While recognizing local control and responsibility for owning, <br />operating, and maintaining water supply systems, the Council will work with our partners to develop <br />plans that meet regional needs for a reliable water supply that protects public health, critical habitat, <br />and water resources over the long-term. <br />Policy on Assessing and Protecting Regional Water Resources. The Council will continue to <br />assess the condition of the region's lakes, rivers, streams, and aquifers to evaluate impacts on <br />regional water resources and measure success in achieving regional water goals. <br />Policy on Water Conservation and Reuse. The Council will work with together with partners to <br />identify emerging issues and challenges for the region and solutions that include the use of water <br />conservation, wastewater and stormwater reuse, and low impact development practices in order to <br />promote a more sustainable region. <br />Investment Policy.
