SPECIAL MEETING
RAMSEY TOWN BOARD
Sept. 12, 1974

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by the Chairman,
Mr. Cox. Present from the Board were Mr. Nelson, Mr. Hopperstad,
Mr. Reimann and Mrs. Oliphant. Mr. Steffens was also present.

Present from St. Francis City was Mrs. Doris Irvine of the Coun-
cil and Mr. Ray Jones, mayor. Present from Burns Township was
Mr. Donovan Minder, Chairman, Mr. Ernie Kohler, Supervisor, and
Mr. Les Wirz, Assessor. Mr. Dennis Berg came later on.

Mr. Steffens explained the figures he had received from Mr. Les
Schwartz concerning assessing for the three communities, by the
County. Ramsey cost would be $5566 per year. Discussion by the
three communities on how this could be handled. They wanted to
take the information back to their communities and discuss it with
their people and then we would discuss it again at the combined
meeting at Grow Township on September 25th. Because Ramsey has
grown so rapidly we must get going on this in order to give the
assessor time to cover the whole community because this is the
year when everything has to beassessed. It was decided to try
to find someone who could take the assessing on a full time basis.
Mr. Steffens will write up a job description for the assessor's
job and put this ad in community papers. He thoug~ a full time
person could not be hired for less than $9,000 per year. Accord-
ing to the schedule from Mr. Schwartz this would mean that the
full time person would have 50 days open for which he could be
scheduled to do some other work. Mr. Steffens thoug~ $800 a month
would be the least we could pay such a person. Another avenue
might be to hire one person who has his certification and then
he could hire assistants to do the leg work. All assessor's must
be certified by July l, 1975.

At this point the interest seems to be trying to get Mr. Ernest
Larsen, who was assessor for Ramsey Township this past three years,
to head up such a program. Mr. Cox phoned Mr. Larsen and he came
in a short time to discuss this matter. He urged that we try to
find a full time man to fill this position. He said he has so much
to do he doesn't think he could take it on but he would think about
it and let us know his decision. In the meantime he urged we ad-
vertise for a replacement.

St. Francis City was invited to the combined meeting at Grow Town-
ship on September 25th when we hope to makera decision on this mat-
ter.

The meeting was closed at 9:~5 p.m.

Respectfully s~bmitted,

Clerk ~
