CC Regular Session 4. 11.
Meeting Date: 08/25/2015
By: Grant Riemer, Engineering/Public
Works
Information
Title
Adopt Resolution # 15-08-211 Awarding a Contract for Additional Spray Patching on City Streets
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to accept the low quote for spray patching on 15 separate projects in various
neighborhoods, throughout the city. Spray patching has been used over the last two years on city streets, and has
proven more effective on shallow surface raveling than conventional methods of patching. Staff solicited and
received two quotes for this work, one from Pavement Resources Inc and the other from RCM Specialties Inc. Both
contractors have performed this type of work satisfactorily for the city in recent months and their quotes are
attached to this case.
Notification:
N/A
Observations/Alternatives:
The general fund budget includes $500,000.00 annually for street maintenance projects. At the July 14th city
council meeting, the council adopted resolution #15-07-173 awarding the bid for program division A, seal coat
improvements to Pearson Bros in the amount of $255,496.00. Because of the favorable bid prices received, surplus
funds are available within the budgeted amount to perform other maintenance projects. These projects include such
work as crack filling, seal coating, patching, etc... The council requested that surplus funds be used to perform
additional necessary maintenance work on the City road system this year if possible, instead of rolling the funds
over to next year and delaying work.
Funding Source:
General fund account 0311-6488 Street Maintenance Contract
Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the City Council accept RCM Specialties Inc quote of $61,675.01 for spray patching
services on areas designated by the PW Superintendent. If Council has an alternative direction, this item should be
pulled from the Consent Agenda and placed on the regular agenda to allow for discussion and direction.
Action:
Motion to adopt Resolution # 15-08-211 Awarding a Contract for Additional Spray Patching on City Streets to
RCM Specialties Inc in the amount of $61,675.01 (on areas designated by the PW Superintendent).
Attachments
Pavement Resourses Proposal
RCM Specialties Quote
Resolution # 15-08-211
