Case #4: Amending Of Cha~ter 110.14 Entitled "Weeds" Of the City Code: Chairman Peterson stated that Council has requested P&Z to review and make recommendations regarding Chapter 110.14 entitled "Weeds". Chairman Peterson stated that one section of the chapter, 110.143 - Growing Grass, is causing problems. If a citizen does not comply with this code, notices are sent to that citizen that he is in violation of having grass taller than 12" and that he has 10 days to correct the situation. If the citizen takes no action, the City can contract a weed cutter to cut it and the cost would be assessed to the property owner. I I I I Mrs. Steiner - 6121 158th Lane - Own a vacant lot adjacent to our home on which there are trees, sumac and wildflowers and have been requested by neighbors not to clear this lot because it is a beautiful piece of untouched nature and a relief from the monotony of manicured lawns. Terry Pettro - 6140 157th - Stated that he received a letter from the City that he is in violation and to clear cut the property. Have Surveyed homes of Council persons and they are all in violation and have surveyed a couple of home of P&Z commission members and they too are in violation. Stated that he has planted 1500-2000 seedlings on his property-and it would be difficult to cut the tall grass, etc. without killing all the seedlings. Mr. Pettro submitted the following as his recommended wording for this section of the ordinance: 110.143 Growing Grass - All parcels of land within the platted portions of the City with a dwelling on it must have a minimum of 5000 square feet of cut grass adjacent to such Page 5 of 8
