Councilmember LeTourneau introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #15-08-214 RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE A LONG TERM DISABILITY (LTD) CARRIER CHANGE AND A NON-UNION EMPLOYEE LTD BENEFIT CHANGE WHEREAS, the City carries two long term disability benefit plans with Madison National Insurance; a voluntary and a non-voluntary plan; and WHEREAS , a quote from Sun Life Insurance, a higher rated carrier, is 10% less than the current carrier, with a richer benefit plan and a two-year rate guarantee; and WHEREAS , staff recommends changing long term disability carriers from Madison National Insurance to Sun Life Insurance effective January 1, 2016; and WHEREAS , staff recommends switching all current non-union employees (excluding the two employees allowed to waive) and all future non-union employees to the non-voluntary long term disability plan, effective January 1, 2016. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1) Motion to adopt resolution #15-08-214 to authorize staff to do the following: 1) change long term disability carriers from Madison National Insurance to Sun Life Insurance effective January 1, 2016, and 2) switch all current non-union employees (excluding the two employees allowed to waive) and all future non-union employees to the non- voluntary long term disability plan, effective January 1, 2016, at their own cost.. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Johns, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Strommen Councilmember LeTourneau Councilmember Johns Councilmember Kuzma Councilmember Riley Councilmember Williams and the following voted against the same: None
