SPECIAL MEETING OF RAMSEY CITY couNCIL <br /> June 11, 1975 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to or,er at 5:15 p.m. by Mayor Cox. Those <br />present were Mr. Gotham, Mr. Reimann, Mr. Mickelson and Mrs. Oli- <br />phant. Also present were Mr. Steffen and Mr. Auspos. <br /> <br />Mr. Steffen stated at the prese, nt rate of spending the: police out- <br />lay for the year would be $3~,8~2. The police budget is. $31,915. <br />This does not include the police reserve cost. The 'police reserve <br />amount was set at $2&O0. This means we will have to come up with <br />$5,000 more than was budgeted at .the present rate of spending. <br />Expend~.tures for the police now is $29OO.per month. Budget request <br />was $2623 per month and we are spending $2900 per month. Net dif <br />ference is $280 to $300 per month. Discussion on this matter. <br /> <br />Is the Council going to find the additional $5,000 for the budget <br />or is the Police department to cut back to meet the budget? <br /> <br />Mr. Auspos said generally police costs pick upin the summer time. <br /> <br />Mr. Cox said we had two choices, either go along withMike and have <br />a deficit or tell Nike to cut down. Mike said he doesn,t see how <br />he can cut back on gas or car repairs. <br /> <br />Mrs. Oliphant left at 5:50 p.m. <br /> <br />One plan being'used in Coon Rapids for cutting back on police <br /> ex- <br />pense is to have each car sit for 15minutes out of each hour with <br /> <br />the engine stopped. <br /> <br />Police Reserve: There are 12 members. They are now ina training <br />program. Mr. Steffenwill check to see if they are Covered by our <br />insurance. Both Anoka and Champlin have swornin their reserves. <br /> <br />Mr. Gorham moved we approve the following people who have been <br />recommended thru oral and written testing to become the police <br />reserve for the City of Ramsey. Seconded by Mr. Reimann. Motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Brian McNeil from XANO arrived. <br /> <br />Mr. Reimannmoved we giveMr. Auspos authority to sign an applica- <br />tion for reimbursement funds from the State of Minnesota Police <br />Peace Officer Training Board. Seconded by Mr. Mickelson. Motion <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Discussion on political involvement by police officers when elec- <br />tions come up. <br /> <br />Mr. Reimann moved the meeting be adjourned. <br /> <br />There will be a meeting of the Ramsey City Council at the City <br />Hall on June 23, 1975 at ~:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />
