Council through .the iChief of Police ' <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: To. function as a field <br />officer' carrying out the prevention, protection and <br />enforcement functions 'of the Department bY. patrolling <br />in police radio cruisers 'as directed. <br /> <br />MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: <br /> <br />A. To learn and utilize iapplicabIe legal 'and polici'ng <br /> standards 'and departmental policies as 'required to <br /> make Judgments 'and to act as necessary under general <br /> supervision to: <br /> <br /> 1. Provide assistance to the public in the form of <br /> information or physical help. <br /> <br /> 2. Respond to. emergency calls,' arrange for medical <br /> emergency assistance as necessary. <br /> <br /> 3.Direct traffic as necessary. <br /> <br /> 4.Direct "crowd situations to prevent .injury. <br /> <br /> 5. Initiate policing :function at accident and crime <br /> scenes' by protect'lng evidence,' taking statements <br /> from witnesses and suspects, making searches 'and <br /> arrests 'as circumstances require. <br /> <br /> <br />
