CC Regular Session 4. 6.
Meeting Date: 10/27/2015
By: Grant Riemer, Engineering/Public
Works
Information
Title
Approve Donation To Anoka County Historical Society
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to acknowledge the donation of a wall mural from Law's Barbeque. Law's Barbeque
was located on the southwest corner of Hwy 47 and Nowthen Blvd and operated at that location for many years
serving barbeque and homemade pies. The building was demolished in 1998 to make room for what is now the
location of Savannah Oaks Senior Apartments. Before the demolition took place the public works department cut
out a small wall section that contained the wall mural. This wall section was stored for many years at the public
works garage and was eventually moved to the Ramsey Town Hall located on Hwy 47 until a more permanent
home could be found.
Notification:
N/A
Observations/Alternatives:
Recently a volunteer with the Anoka County Historical Society, who was aware that we had the wall section in
storage, inquired if we would be willing to donate it to their organization for display. Public works staff felt this was
an excellent solution, it removed our responsibility of storing the piece and the possibility of damage or vandalism,
plus it also allows the public the opportunity to view this piece of Ramsey history. The historical society is
requesting that we sign and return the attached Deed of Gift form to make the donation official.
Funding Source:
N/A
Recommendation:
Staff recommends signing the Deed of Gift form from the Anoka County Historical Society and officially donating
the Dan Law wall mural to the museum.
Action:
Motion to recommend council authorize signing the Deed of Gift form for the Anoka County Historical Society and
officially donating the Dan Law wall mural to the museum or a motion to accept alternative recommendation based
on council discussion. If Council has an alternative direction, this item should be pulled from the Consent Agenda
and placed on the regular agenda to allow for discussion and direction.
Wall Mural
Thank You Note
Deed of Gift Form
Attachments
