INTRODUCE AMENDMENT TO CITY CODE <br />SECTION 4.40.06 SUBDIVISION 10 <br />RELATING TO WATER USE RESTRICTIONS <br />By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer <br /> <br />CASE <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The cra-rent section of the City code relating to water conservation is section 4.40.06 subd <br />10 which reads as follows: <br /> <br />The use of lawn hoses is permitted at all hours of the day, but in case of fire in any area <br />served by the municipal water system, all lawn hoses must be shut off and all other <br />unnecessary use of water must be stopped. 14/7~enever the City shall determine that a <br />shortage of water supply threatens the City, it may, by published notice and/or radio and <br />television notice, limit the times and hours during which water may be used from the City <br />water system for lawn or garden sprinkling, irrigation, car washing, swimming pools, air <br />conditioning or other uses. Notice of a violation of the published notice shall be mailed <br />to the violator and violation of the mailed notice is hereby prohibited. Any water <br />customer who shall cause or permit water to be used in violation of the provisions of said <br />notice two clays c~er its mailing, may have water service discontinued. <br /> <br />The Public Works Committee recommended changes be made to this section of the City <br />code which would provide for more progressive penalties for water sprinkling violations <br />and also that the conservation policies currently in place be included into this section of <br />the code. Attached to this case is an ordinance modifying the wording of this section of <br />the City code. <br /> <br />Recommendations: <br /> <br />Staff recommends the introduction of an ordinance modifying section 4.40.06 subd 10 <br />relating to sprinkling and limitations on use of the municipal water system. <br /> <br />Action: <br /> <br />Motion to introduce an ordinance modifying section 4.40.06 subd 10 relating to <br />sprinkling and limitations on use of the municipal water system. <br /> <br />Reviewed By: <br />Director of Public Works <br />Assistant Public Works Director <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor <br />City Attorney <br /> <br />CC: 05/11/04 <br /> <br /> <br />
