BUSINESS PARK MONUMENT SIGNAGE
By: Sean Sullivan, Economic Development / TIF Specialist

Background:

The City of Ramsey has spent a great deal of money and time on constructing and redeveloping its industrial
parks. The City continues to grow and is trying to establish an identity for itself and it would make sense-to
attach its namesake to successful projects within the City. Other cities in the suburbs have the entrances to their
industrial parks labeled with signs designating the park name and entrances. It is a nice finishing touch and it
adds to establishing a positive identity to the City of Ramsey. Staff was directed to research further into the
costs associated with constructing monument signs. Staff has gather some cursory information from Brock
White Company in Elk River and the information will be presented at the meeting.

Observations:

Staff met with Mike Chambers of Brock White Company and discussed different sign types and the costs
associated with them. Staff will bring a handout showing the sign types and costs associated and give them for
review at the meeting. The prices for the selected sign styles ranged from $5,850 to $14,500. The materials and
size were the major determinants when it came to the sign pricing. It must be noted that these are estimated
costs by the contractor and that they would have to have the City bring to them a design for the signage. The
company will assist with the design process for a nominal fee if desired. It looks like the costs associated with
the sign seem to be reasonable and it might be good to pursue this action further. Staff is looking for a-
recommendation on the sign type, design and plan as to how the signs would be implemented. The
recommendation need not come immediately but it should come within the next couple of months so that it can
be coordinated with Hwy 116 improvements and Town Center grand openings. Our industrial parks are
something the City of Ramsey can be proud of and adding the proper finish to them only helps to establish a
positive identity for our City.

Recommendation:

Based on discussion

Review Checldist:

City Administrator, Jim Norman
Associate Planner, Megan Wald

EDA: 05.10.04
