The changes in the information regarding this project were discussed. The total estimate was
now approximately $120,000 and he suggested the community might be engaged for donations.
He would obtain a tally regarding what part of the project used recyclable materials, which would
provide an opportunity for other funding resources. He anticipated bringing this back to the
Commission no later than June.

He would be working with an art instructor at the University of Minnesota at Duluth refining
some of the symbols discovered throughout the recycling part of the project. The curriculum was
patterned after what was used at Ramsey Elementary School, where kids were learning
relationships between the natural world and people. These were conceptual ideas to move the
conversation forward. Formal presentation would be given no later than June.

He referred the Commission to page 6 of the provided information and noted the location was the
entrance to Alpine Park. An irrigated space, concrete areas around the play equipment and
custom-designed play equipment would be integrated into the site. The goal was to mix natural
elements with more formal elements. An opportunity for Ci'ty participation would be to move
the trees as soon as the upcoming fall.

Chairperson Johns stated she thought it was decided to "get away from the play structure stuff."

Parks and Utilities Supervisor Riverblood responded the equipment should have recognizable
play value if the City was spending a fair amount of money for a playgroUnd in a community
park. He felt the plans moved toward a good balance.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Commissioner LaMere, seconded by Commissioner Pontius, to adjourn the meeting.

Motion carried.

The Park and Recreation Commission meeting adjourned at 8:31 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Marjorie R.
