August 10, 2015 1 Volume 9 1 Issue 15 Zoning Bulletin <br />Zoning News from Around the <br />Nation <br />KENTUCKY <br />The Lexington Urban County Planning Commission voted to change <br />Lexington zoning laws to allow for new recreation and tourism -based <br />businesses. The new law establishes and defines "tourism and recreational <br />businesses such as farm gift shops, family wineries and nature preserves. <br />The changes in the law also establish where those types of new uses can <br />be located." The Planning Commission also voted to define perniitted <br />uses and those needing conditional use pernuits in agricultural natural <br />zones. <br />Source: Lexington -Herald Leader; www.kentucky.com <br />NORTH CAROLINA <br />The state Senate recently approved a bill that would "end the require- <br />ment for a three-quarter majority vote by a city council to approve zon- <br />ing changes if enough residents sign a petition opposing the proposed <br />changes." The bill was sent to the state House, where a similar version <br />has reportedly received support. Governor Pat McCrory has indicated <br />that he supports the bill. <br />Source: WECT 6; www.wect.com <br />OREGON <br />An inclusionary zoning bill—House Bill 2564— has died in the state <br />Senate. The bill, which had passed in the state House in April, was <br />intended to "expand Oregon's supply of affordable housing." Under cur- <br />rent state law, local governments are prohibited from requiring develop- <br />ers to provide affordable units in large construction projects. The now - <br />dead bill would have enabled local governments to set local policies <br />requiring construction of cheaper homes. <br />Source: The Oregonian; www.oregonlive.coin <br />PENNSYLVANIA <br />The Philadelphia City Council has passed legislation adjusting zoning <br />rules such that "most [Airbnb-type] rentals [are now] illegal in residen- <br />tial areas.
