Councilmember Cox stated that the Governor is in the middle of a dilemma
that has been brewing for 15-20 years. Reduction of jobs in this State,
because of taxes, is over a % million. That legislation (including John
Clawson) has not been doing anything beyond making promises. That Rep.
John Weaver was very emphatic that we get a meeting with the Governor
either at the Capitol or at Ramsey City Hall. Councilmember Cox also made
note of letter from Governor Quie to Mayor Gamec dated August 21, 1981,
regarding placing a limit on increases in amounts which can be raised
through property taxes.

Motion by Councilmember Cox and seconded by Councilmember Van Wagner to
answer Governor Quie's letter to Mayor Gamec dated 8/21/81 stating that
the last page of the Governor's letter regarding property tax increases
that he refers to in regards to property owners is not consistent with
present State laws that sets up the formula for applying property tax to
residential, commercial/industrial or residential rental property. And
further, that the City of Ramsey respond to the above letter in regards to
this fact. Also, the City inform the Governor that we have adopted
resolutions on this issue which had been submitted to his office and would
appreciate his taking a stand on this very important issue. Motion
carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Reimann, Cox, Van
Wagner and Sorteberg. Voting No: None.
