Mayor Gamcc asked if there is anything different about these sirens than what the City has been <br />using. <br /> <br />Mr. $iprin replied they are AC sirens with battery backup. They use the existing control system <br />the City currently uses. There are three sirens in the City now, and this is an additional purchase <br />of sirens fi:om their company. <br /> <br />Councihnember Zimmerman asked what would happen to the sirens if lighting strikes. <br /> <br />Mt'. Siprin replied like any device the lightning will do damage to the siren, although the local <br />service center would get it np and running as soon as possible, and they are protected with proper <br />grounding. <br /> <br />Councilmcmbcr Kurak asked if there were any failures with the recent storms when the sirens <br />went off. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way replied one of the sirens to be replaced failed. <br /> <br />Counci hnember Elvig noted the new sirens will be overlapped better in the case of a failure. <br /> <br />Police Chie£ Way explained the overlapping of the sirens will cover a larger area and provide <br />better coverage into an area that is heavily populated. <br /> <br />Councilmcmber Pearson inquired of the life expectancy of the sirens. <br /> <br />Mr. Siprin replied with care and maintenance the life expectancy of the sirens is 20 to 30 years. <br /> <br />Motion by Councihnember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Cook, to adopt Resolution #04- <br />05-132 attthorizing the contracted equipment replacement and relocation of outdoor warning <br />sirens with American Signal Corporation, per the terms and conditions of the contract. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Elvig, Cook, Kurak, Pearson, <br />Strommen, and Zimmennan. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamcc asked Police Chief Way if the ordinance concerning 2:00 a.m. bar closings is in <br />effect. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way replied it will be at least another week before the ordinance is in effect. No <br />one has actually applied and paid their fee yet. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec noted according to the Council's reports, DWI's are running higher than last year. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way explained there are many different factors regarding this. Officers work <br />different areas, and they currently have young aggressive officers working.
