Page 2 <br />Special Council Meeting <br />September 5, 1978 <br /> <br />Mr. Bob Ahlman said he lives two or three lots down from the Terpstra's <br />and what didn't go in Terpstra's would run into his. <br /> <br />Mr. John Terpstra stated when it rains it washes out part of his driveway <br />and is a general mess. <br /> <br />Mrs. George Gauer said she is not in favor of curbed streets because of <br />the drainage. Said they were forced to move their septic system because <br />of the problem. <br /> <br />Mr. John Terpstra stated he has no desire for tar because of the drainage <br />problem. He is concerned with the high cost and feels it is unnecessary. <br />He has lived there for eight years and watched the problem. <br /> <br />Mayor Cox asked if it can be drained away. <br /> <br />Mr. John Terpstra stated the area goes west and slopes to the river. How <br />can it be prevented from going to his driveway and forming a lake. <br /> <br />Mr. Gary Gorham stated that curbs could have a benefit and could keep water <br />off them. It could be taken between the lot lines and drained to the river. <br /> <br />Mrs. Jane Terpstra is concerned for their septic system as it is just short <br />of the area where the water sets when it rains. <br /> <br />Mrs. George Gauer asked about the flood plain and getting water to that. <br /> <br />City Engineer Raatika stated that storm sewers would have to be provided <br />and they would have to obtain easements. <br /> <br />Ms. Jane Terpstra asked about the turn around being enlarged for buses. <br /> <br />Street Superintendent Mevisson stated it is 100 feet and they should have <br />no problem. <br /> <br />It was asked about paying for the improvement. They have the option to <br />pay in a lump sum in 30 days after the notice or it will be assessed to <br />them over a ten year period. <br /> <br />A letter was read from Mr. Arthur E. Dumke, Josephine Dumke and Dorothy <br />Neumann. There was also one read from Mr. & Mrs. Edward Irvine. <br /> <br />Mrs. George Gauer asked if they order a study that it include costs for <br />curbless ditches. <br /> <br />Motion by Tom Gamec and seconded by Gary Reimann to adjourn the special <br />meeting. <br /> <br />5 ayes <br />Motion carried <br /> <br /> <br />
