Public Hearing
Page 2
October 10, 1978

Mr. Terry McLaine asked if the maximum is 20 x 20 on a one acre lot. He
also stated he felt the Council was being too limiting.

Mr. Steve Dulicka asked if this would be limited to new construction.

IIe was told it was.

Ms. Ramona O'Donnell stated that if she wanted to build a storage build-
ing and add five extra feet then you're saying I can't do that.

Ms. Shirley Hanson asked if this included the recreational vehicles parked
in a persons yard.

She was told it did not.

Mr. Terry Petro asked why we are limiting small business in this area,
when it should be the accessory building itself.

Ms. Barb Gray stated that if it':is to look like the front of the house
then a person can't go to Wards for a metal building for storage of
rakes, bikes, etc.

Mr. Bill Easley said the discussion here was not to restrict small businesses
and had nothing to do with garages but to strictly prevent citizens in resi-
dential areas to construct an unsightly building larger than his house.

Mr. Terry Petro asked if it included small buildings valued for less than
Ssoo.oo.

He was told there were no restrictions on metal storage buildings.

Mr. Steve Schmitt stated with all the discussion on detached/attached
garages that perhaps provisions should be made for detached/attached
garages.

Tom Anderson said our ordinance required further clarification andsaid
also that Coon Rapids had just adopted a new ordinance that an accessory
building can't be over 75% of livable space in size and it must match the
exterior of the principal structure.

Ms. Shirley Hanson asked if this had any bearing on the existing buildings.

She was told it did not.

Mr. Rick Sloan asked if consideration had been made in looking at other
ordinances in other communities.

Councilman Mickelson said that since Coon Rapids had adopted their ordinance
two years ago they haven't had any problem since. They had found the
neighbors do their own policing.

Motion by Councilman Reimann and seconded by Councilman Gamec to adjourn
the public hearing.

Motion carried. Voting yes Mayor Cox, Councilman Muller, Councilman Reimann,
Councilman Mickelson, Councilman Gamec. Voting no None.

Meeting adjourned 8:50.
