5 minutes CASE ~9:

STATUS OF ICg RINK FLOODING FOR 1987/1988
(Tabled from September 22, 1987)
By: David Hartley, City Administrator

Background:

Early in the year the City of Ramsey purchased a tanker truck which was
intended for multiple purposes (ice rink flooding, street sweeping and as a
back-up tanker for fire protection). In order to use this tanker for any of
these purposes, modifications must be made. The City Council previously
reviewed the possibility of retro-fitting this tanker to accommodate the
multiple needs or uses and has taken no action as of this date. In order to
provide ice rink grooming for 1987/1988, the City must either make major
repairs to the older tanker owned by the City or retro-fit the new tanker
currently owned by the City. With fall and subsequently winter coming upon us,
it is timely that the City Council consider directing Staff regarding this
matter. Similarly, if contracting out is an option which the Council wishes to
pursue regarding ice rink grooming, then requests for proposals need to be
established right away.

Recommendation:

It is staff's recommendation that the Council authorize the retro-fitting of
the new tanker at a cost of $5,600.

Council action will be to discuss and give direction.

Review Checklist:

Administrator
Attorney
Engineer
Community Development Director

X

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
Public Works Superintendent
Other
