PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br /> ANOKA COUNTY <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />The Ramsey Planning and Zoning Commission met on Tuesday April 7, 1987 at <br />the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota to <br />interview applicants for the Planning and Zoning Commission. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Mr. Ken Peterson, Chairman <br />Mr. Gerald Zimmerman <br />Mr. Charles LaDue <br />Mr. Jim Howell <br />Mr. Roy Shumway <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Community Development Director Anne Norris <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />Mr. Terry Hendriksen <br />Mr. Ben Deemer <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Chairman Peterson called the interviews to order at 6:50 p.m. <br /> <br />Interview #1: Robert Shard <br /> <br />Mr. Sharp stated that he owns a business in Anoka and White Bear Lake doing <br />interior design and owns property in Ramsey. Mr. Sharp stated that the <br />City can't be rural anymore; it is too near the metro area and growth <br />cannot be stopped. Mr. Sharp stated that in regards to small businesses, <br />the existing ordinances should be enforced. Regarding home occupations, <br />the City shouldn't make rules too stringent; the City needs to work with <br />people in order to get compliance. Mr. Sharp also noted that there are <br />many home occupations in Ramsey that are unlicensed. Regarding parks, Mr. <br />Sharp stated that he thinks there are not enough parks in Ramsey; the City <br />also needs trails. Regarding urbanization, Mr. Sharp stated he feels there <br />is a place for both urban and rural development in Ramsey; Ramsey needs to <br />plan for growth so that both the rural and urban can coexist. Mr. Sharp <br />stated that he doesn't feel that the existing level of funding for parks is <br />sufficient; the City needs to plan ahead and costs are always increasing. <br />With respect to the airport and landfill; Mr. Sharp stated that the airport <br />is there and the City should use it; that burying trash creates problems <br />and an alternative method of disposal should be used. Mr. Sharp stated <br />that he will be available to attend the Planning and Zoning meetings. Mr. <br />Sharp stated that he likes Ramsey for it's people, community, his home <br />location and the school district. <br /> <br />Art Dussl; <br /> <br />Mr. Dussl stated that the City will grow; development cannot be stopped and <br />the City needs to plan for the future.
