These amendments directed the Environmental Quality Board (EQB) to revise the state's Environmental Review process in a manner which would increase its predictability, efficiency and accountability. As a result of the efforts of the EQB, local government units, the business community and environmental groups, a process which accomplishes the objectives of the legislation has been developed. The effective date of the new Environmental Review Rules will be September 28, 1982. To assist local government units in implementing the new rules, a series of statewide information meetings will be held during the month of September. These information meetings, sponsored by the EQB, the League of Cities, the Association of Townships and the Association of County Planning and Zoning Administrators, will focus on the differences between the current process (1977 edition) and the revised process, local government responsibilities under the revised process, and the proce- dures to be followed in implementing the revised process. Understanding the purpose of the environmental review process and the procedures to be followed in implementing that process will go a long way to achieving a smooth transition between the current and revised processes. I urge you or a representative of your governmental unit to attend. To assist us in planning these meetings, would you please complete the enclosed form and return to the address given on the form. We would appreciate receiving the completed form by August 13, 1982. Walk-ins-at the sessions will be welcome; however, space may be limited due to room size. You will be notified of the meeting location in late August. All sessions will begin at 12:30 p.m. and end by 4:30 p.m. There is no charge for the sessions or for the meeting materials which will be handed out at the beginning of each session. If you are unable to attend one of the meetings but would like a copy of the handouts, please indicate such on the enclosed form.
