We
have arranged population categories so that you may compare
your city's figures to those of cities of comparable size. All
figures are for 1980. We stress again that no direct comparisons
~_~j:~_%~_ between or among cities since there has not been
universal adoption of the Uniform Chart of Accounts.

!
'1
I
I
I
I
I
I

Note that in some cases there are significant differepces between
medians and averages, indicative of categories skewed by outliers
of large magnitude. In such cases it may be more informative to
compare your data to the median rather than the average.

A few other explanations are in order:

"Total revenues" are for governmental funds only and
do not include enterprise funds. ~-
"Interest income" pertains to governmental funds
only and does not include interest earned on special
assessment deferrals.
"General fund undesignated balance as a per cent of
current expenditures" was not included in your profile.
The balance as a per cent of~total expenditures was.
However, this is strongly affbct-~ ~Y swings in capital
outlays, so we are changing to current expenditures.
You can calculate the figure for your city from
information on pages 3 and 4 of your profile.

As you know, we are in the process of updating the program with
1981 data. We thank all of you who gave suggestions for
'improvements. The majority of feedback has been positive, both
from financial managers and policymakers. We welcome and
encourage continued suggestions from you.

I
I

You may direct your comments to this office
(612) 297-3671.

pt

Enclosure

(612) 296-4916 or

I

AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EM,°LOYER
