Quie
Governor
State of Minnesota
130 State Capitol
St. Paul, MN 55155

RE: Proposed Discontinuance of Federal .Surplus Property Program

Dear Governor Quie:

It has been brought to the City of Ramsey's attention that the State's
Commissioner of Administration has proposed to discontinue the Federal
Surplus Personal Property Distribution in Minnesota. Supposedly, the
Commissioner feels that if this operation is phased out it will save
the State approximately $60,000. However, the Federal Surplus Property
Program has been a big help to many communities over the yea~s in pro-
viding equipment that they could not afford. Consequently, we feel
that before this program is phased out, the total merits of it should
be weighed before dismantling the service.

Accordingly, the City of Ramsey would appreciate your comments on why
your administration is proposing to abolish tSe Federal Surplus Property
Program.

Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

Sincerely yours,

CITY OF RAMSEY

Thomas G.
