The law requires each of the seven counties <br />in the Twin Cities Reqion to adopt an inventory of five proposed sites--four <br />for disposal of mixed municipal waste and one for demolition debris. The !aw <br />als,] requires the counties to submit their inventories to the Council For <br />review and approval. <br /> <br />Mixed municipal waste consists of garbage, refuse and other solid wastes, but <br />does not include sewage s]udge or hazardous wastes. Demolition debris consists <br />oT brick, concrete, wood and metal ',;ast£s associated with construction <br />activities. <br /> <br />Preliminary ev~l~]aLions of sites proposed hy six of the seven cou~ties were <br />discussed ac ouolic meetings held by ti~e Council earlier this year Co receive <br />comments and information from affected landowners, local-officials and <br />concerned citizens. Me.stings were held in Anoka~County (April 1.~) Dakota (May <br />6), Hennepin~.,~t~"-~ I and ~)~ Ramse.,v (~pril 15), ~cott (February 11I., and <br />Washington (April 6). Carver Ceunty has not yet submitted its inventory of <br />sites tc th~ Council 'For review. <br /> <br />The Council's staff has prepared recommendations, summarized below, on each <br />s!te based on information provided by public officials and affected citizens <br />threu[gh Council-spoo. sored public meetings, by individual counties; the <br />Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and other sources. During July and August, <br />the ?'ecommendations will be considered first by the Council's Metropolitan <br />Waste Management Advisory Committee (made up of citizen members~, then its <br />Physical D~vel~D;,=ent Ccmmittee (made up of Council members!, and ¢inally by the <br />Council ~tself.
