I
I
I
I
I
I
I
,I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

May 11, 1982

Ramsey City Council
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Boulevard N,W.
Ramsey, Minnesota 55303

RE: SURFACING BOWERS DRIVE

Council Members:

We own lots 11 & 12 on which we will be building this summer.

We would like to go on record as favoring surfacing or dust control only
if the road will be left in its pr.esent route.

We understand the council has moved to require the relocation of the road
to the recorded right of way if surfacing is done. We can understand
municipal codes and ordinances requiring standardization; however,
routine standardization does not always give the best results in all
situations and therefore variances are given.

It would seem this could be a just cause for a variance--many of our most
beautiful areas all across our country are not laid out as per engineering
excellence, allowances being made for rivers, lakes, trees, scenery, etc.
The Bowers area would be d~ were the road to be moved just to
conform to the original right of way.~-~fSC4C~F~

Whether the recent ruling was necessary or merely political we nonetheless
would like to see the council approve a variance to leave the road as is
and surface it. Many city streets have trees 1 or 2 feet from the curb
and the plows have no trouble~

Bowers Drive-being short-is not an area where the plows must travel at a
high rate of speed so it should not prove difficult - they have been
plowing it many years and doing an excellent job.

We respect the job you people have to do and realize you cannot please
everyone -- continue your good work.

In closing-~if we cannot have the road surfaced in its present location,
we will vote against surfacing and do all in our power to keep the
drive as is. The beauty of the drive as is, is much more valuable than
the surfacing.

Please consider again surfacing it as it is without change.

Sincerely,
