I
I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I
I
I

In reviewing the existing conditions of the project area both urban and rural street
sections were considered. A preliminary cost comparison of the two street section
alternatives revealed that a rural section was more economical in the case of

167th Avenue N.W. Therefore, this report proposes the construction of a rural street
section.

The ultimate street section would include three inch thick, 24 feet wide bituminous
surface over a four inch class five gravel base with 8 feet wide one and one half
inch thick bituminous shoulders as shown on Exhibit B. It is also proposed to
widen the rT§ht shoulders to 12 feet at the intersections of C.S.A.H. No. 5 and
S.T.H. No. 47 for use as turning lanes. Turnin§ and bypass lanes are also pro-
posed to be constructed along S.T.H. No. 47 where it intersects with 167th Avenue
N.W.

In reviewing the report on the sub-surface investigation completed by Soil Testing
Services of Minnesota, Inc., it was recommended that frost susceptible and organic
soils be removed from within the area of the roadway and replaced with compacted
non-organic select fill material. The depth of the unsuitable materials varied
from zero to five feet below the existing ground surface.

Storm water drainage would also be provided. The existing drainage culverts would
be salvaged and reused depending upon their condition. Where culverts do not presently
exist it is proposed to install new cross street culverts as required to convey the
storm water runoff. Several driveways also do not presently have driveway culverts.

In the event the drainage patterns are changed and driveway culverts are required,
they would also be installed as part of the project. It is also proposed to obtain
drainage easements, since no easements outside of the street right-of-ways presently
exist.

ESTIMATED COSTS:

The estimated project costs are shown in the following table:
