AnoEa Courtly,, dnne ota <br /> <br />!~ OFFERED By COMMiSSiONER Fi01ds <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 82-12 <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />COUNTY BOARD SUPPORT FOR CITY OF ANOKA PERMIT FOR <br />FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS OF GENERATION OF HYDRO-ELECTRIC <br /> POWER AT COON RAPIDS DAM <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Anoka has, for a number of years, under the <br />authority of Minnesota Law and the City Charter, provided electrical <br />service as a municipal electric utility; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, throughout the course of the provision of electrical <br />service to its customers, the City of Anoka has constantly attempted to <br />improve that service through cost reduction measures and improvement of <br />electrical distribution technoldgy; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Coon Rapids Dam, located in the City of Coon RaPids, <br />was originally constructed as a hydro-electric power generation facility <br />and later developed as a regional park, but due to the increased demand <br />for electricity and'changing economic climate with the distribution and <br />sale of electricity the dam may be once again feasible for a hydro- <br />electric power generating facility; and,. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Anoka has expressed a very positive interest <br />in the development of the Coon Rapids Dam as a non-polluting source of <br />electrical energy to the customers served by the Anoka Electric Dtility; <br />and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, if the City of Anoka were to develop and operate the Coon <br />Rapids Dam as a hydro-electric power generating facility, it would serve <br />to stabilize the electric rates for all Anoka Electric Utility customers <br />living in Anoka County, specifically in the Cities of Ramsey, Coon <br />Rapids and Anoka; and in Hennepin County, the Cities of Dayton. and- <br />Champlin; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the consensus opinion of the Anoka County Board of <br />Commissioners that the operation of a hydro-electric power generating <br />facility at the Coon Rapids Dam would not impair or effect the attractiveness <br />of this facility as a regional park; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Anoka has demonstrated its commitment to parks <br />and open space by the exemplary city park system which it maintains; <br />and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Anoka County Board of Commissioners has received an <br />assurance from the City of Anoka that they would make every effort to <br />maintain the integrity of the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park through <br />appropriate development of a hydro-electric facility; and, <br /> <br /> <br />
