TFYR Policy Initiative Checklist <br /> <br />Anoka County <br /> <br />Mobilize Your Partnership (steps 1-2) <br /> <br />[] Contact TFYR to assess your policy readiness and to develop an initiative strategy <br /> <br />Identify parents, teachers, youth and other leaders who are interested in this issue <br /> <br />Schedule a time for you and your partners to attend TFYR's Policy Initiative Training <br /> <br />Use TFYR's policy handbook playing Tobacco Free for detailed information on the steps outlined <br />below (specific pages are referenced below) <br /> <br />Assess the Community (steps 3-6) <br /> <br />Determine what outdoor recreational facilities are present in your community <br /> o Begin by checking the city's website to see what information is available <br /> o If necessary, contact your park & recreation department or city offices for a complete listing <br /> <br />Use <br /> o <br /> o <br /> o <br /> o <br /> o <br /> o <br /> <br />the information you collected to answer the following questions: <br />Who uses the facility? <br />What is the primary use for the facility? <br />Who owns and operates the facility? <br />Who is the decision making body for the facility? <br />Is there an existing tobacco-free policy or any similar policy for this facility? <br />If so, is there any signage present? <br /> <br />~ Fill out the "Recreational Facility Inventory" to help organize the info you've collected (p. 7) <br /> <br />[] Conduct a community survey to gauge community support (p. 8) <br /> o Obtain approval from your grant manager prior to conducting the survey <br /> <br />Go over the facts collected and determine what facilities should be included in your policy request <br /> <br />Develop a policy request that your partnership would like the decision makers to consider (p. 9) <br /> o Determine the rationale behind the request <br /> o List the names specific facilities you want tobacco free <br /> o Include TFYR's Policy Enforcement Plan <br /> <br />Build Policy Support (steps 7-10) <br /> <br />Contact the following groups to see if they will support the partnership's policy request <br /> o Youth sport organizations and clubs (local YMCA, soccer association, etc.) <br /> o School officials and teachers (principal, chemical health advisor, athletic director, etc.) <br /> o Community organizations (parent teacher associations, churches, civic organizations) <br /> o Coaches, parents, youth <br /> <br /> <br />
