cc CASE # <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCE (SPECIAL FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS) <br />TO INCLUDE CHAPTER 1306 TO THE MINNESOTA BUILDING CODE <br /> By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief <br /> Jerry Streieh, Fire Code Inspector <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />On May 4, 2004 during a City Council work session the idea of adopting chapter 1306 <br />into the Minnesota Building Code was discussed. Staff was given direction to research <br />several issues to bring back to City Council in a case format. Those items were: <br /> · Impacts to residential structures 3 stories and over <br /> · Availability of sprinkler contractors <br /> · Maintenance of systems by homeowners or associations <br /> · Details of monitoring system <br /> · Average cost of installation <br /> · Insurance savings in residential structures <br /> <br />The results of the research are contained in the attachment to this case. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />The Fire Chief, Fire Code Inspector and Building Official all feel adopting Chapter 1306 <br />is vital to the long-term safety and economic stability of our community. Staff is <br />recommending City Council introduce and adopt chapter 1306, subpart 3, New Buildings <br />with item E, option 1. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Introduce ordinance 04-XX to introduce and adopt chapter 1306, subpart 3, New <br />Buildings with item E, option 1 in the Minnesota Building Code.
