Members Present: Mayor Gamec Councilmember Van Wagner Councilmember Sorteberg Councilmember Reimann Councilmember Cox Also Present: City Administrator Schne,lle City Building Official Berg City Attorney Goodrich City Engineer Raatikka Reporter Eric Sandin The regular meeting of the Ramsey City Council was called to order at 7'05 P.M. by Mayor Gamec. Mayor Gamec led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. A special report was Fresented by Mr. Gary Gorham, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Liquor Commission. Councilman Reimann complimented the Liquor Commission on the thoroughness of the report;:. Ms. Gorham also stated that it is the Commission's understanding that the 10:00 A.M. opening requires a vote by the citizens. Boyd Hanson - 8241 161st Ave. N.W. - I have lived in Ramsey for 13 years and am on the Business Committee. Is it the City's procedure to have a random sampling of hardly 1% of the population to determine what is considered a legitimate business? Business begets business. The convenience nature should deter- mine the need for another off-sale liquor store. Was the public poll taken from registered voters? Gary Gotham We tried to get a list of registered voters to poll, but it wasn't possible. Commission does not feel an off-sale liquor store can be viewed the same as a hardware store, superette, etc. Boyd Han~on How can the City encourage up to 12 saloons because they serve a sandwich and limit off-sale liquor stores to one per 5,000 population? If it is a legitimate business, serves the needs of the people, and in the proper location, the liquor license should stand on it's own two feet and not on someone's personal feelings.
