The Anoka County Board
of Commissioners unanimously went on record in supporting 911 telephone
services for all citizens in Anoka County. The County Board has further
agreed that the costs of this service shall be borne by a County-wide
levy rather than individual citizens directly.

One month ago, we were told by Northwestern Bell and the State of Minnesota
that we may not be able to provide direct 911 telephone service for
County residents in the Elk River Telephone Exchange in northwestern
Anoka County and in the Wyoming Telephone Exchange in northeastern Anoka
County. A map is attached for your information. The reason is that
their specific telephone exchange overlaps into an adjacent county north
of Anoka County which is not in the immediate Twin City area. The
County Board had previously agreed, with the approval of the State that
these areas would be "selectively routed" in order to provide direct 911
services.
