I Landfill praised I I I I am writing to complain about the many responses I have read and heard condemning the Ramsey municipal landfill. The landfill is'doing the com- munity a great service and doesn't deserve to be ridiculed. People always seem to talk before thinking. Sure, the landfill stinks from time to time, but that's to be expected; after all it is garbage. - f live about a block away from the landfilI and I almost never smell i't. I may also have to pick up a few pieces of p.aper once in a while· My neighbors, too, have to pfck up papers blown into their yards. So maybe we ought to put lids on ohr garbage cans. Now the people that live near the landfill should think about how much paper really comes from the lhndfill. The workers at the landfill 'cover the'garbage every ~tay with sand, plus they ha ye. put up two'~eparh te catch fencds to ca tch the few rare pieces of paper that get blown around. The foreman won't even let his men move th.e garbage on a really windy day, sO there can't be too much paper blowing out of the landfill. _. The landfill is also involved in anbther big project. Engineers are currently drilling for met,hane gas. The engineers have already found a deposit, but they baye'to'figur~/Out how they're going to'transport iL They ~lan on piping it to nearby, hous. es ~p. the ne~h. borhood along w~th the people's regularly-purchaser1 natural gas. This mfithane-gas is si.ipposed to help reduce [he rising cost of natural gas we buy from gas eoml~anies.
