The apparent low bidder is Robert <br /> i O. Westlund with a base bid of $52,000. Two other general cohtractors <br /> are within $3,000.00 of that bid. They are Gem Construction, base bid <br /> - $53,463.00 and ABJ Enterprises, base bid - $54,983.00. <br /> <br />I I have called these contractors and have requested a prospectus of <br /> the firm including the kinds of work each has been involved in and other <br /> criteria of their operation. Of the three low bidders, I have <br /> I contacted all by telephone and only Robert O. Westlund and Gem Construction <br /> have responded. ABJ Enterprises will make a decision on Tuesday <br /> October 27th as to whether they will make a submittal on this request. <br />i At the time of preparation of this letter they have not respodded. This <br /> information may be used to aid in the selection process. <br /> <br /> As you review the bids, it is apparent that four contractors are <br />I within $4,000.00 of each other when~ the work under both alternates is <br /> included. In this instance, Gem Construction of Apple Halley is <br /> the low bidder at $73,760.00. <br />I As we have discussed previously, Clayton, I believe some "cushion" should <br /> be built into a remodeling project of this type. I believe 5 to 7% <br />i of the contract amount would be adequate to cover the unknowns of the work. <br /> In conclusion, Robert O. Westlund and Gem Construction followed thru <br /> with the request and both are qualified and I would recommend that we <br />I select Robert O. Westlund, the low bidder as General Contractor for <br /> this project. <br /> <br />I I've included a copy of the bid tabulation and the work performance <br /> documents.
