INTRODUCTION

A public hearing on the above-entitled matter was held on
August 19, 1981. Members of the public were thereafter given
an opportunity to submit additional testimony and evidence until
4:30 p.m. on August 26, 1981. The Minnesota Pollution
Control Agency (MPCA) staff hereby submits its responses to
significant questions and new information received at the public
hearing (to which responses were not made during the hearing) and
during the comment period concerning the sites in Anoka County
which are under consideration for certification as intrinsically
suitable for use as solid waste disposal facilities.

A sanitary landfill is one in which mixed municipal solid
waste (e.g. garbage) is disposed. A demolition debris landfill is
one in which construction debris is disposed. See Minn. Stat.

§ 115A.03, subd. 7 and 21' (1980) for definitions. Because of the
difference in the nature of the waste, there is less potential
impact on ground and surface water from demolition debris than
from mixed municipal solid waste.
