There <br />are three existing linear parks in Anoka County including <br />Rice Creek North Regional Trail, Rice Creek West <br />Regional Trail and Mississippi River Regional Trail. Refer <br />to Chapter 11- System Standards for more information on <br />the role of linear parks in the Anoka County Park System. <br />Size: 389 acres - 3.8 mile developed trail length <br />Estimated visits in 1996: 49,000 <br />OVERVIEW <br />Rice Creek North Regional Trail is a greenway/trail <br />connection between Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional <br />Park Reserve and a trail length in Ramsey County that is <br />planned to extend through Shoreview and the Twin Cities <br />Army Ammunition Plant site Heading west, the trail will <br />then link with Rice Creek West Regional Trail in Fridley. <br />The greenway/trail is a valuable regional trail link that <br />protects sensitive wetland and creek habitat areas and <br />provides attractive undeveloped open space. In addition, <br />the trail links to several local parks and trail systems. <br />Them is also a Native American burial mound in the park <br />that will be protected. <br />Improvements planned for the park focus on development <br />of trails and support facilities and on interpretation of the <br />Native American heritage represented by the burial site <br />located there. <br />TRAILS <br />Development: <br />Two foot bridges; boardwalk; bituminous trail expansion; <br />trail connection into Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional <br />Park; trail directional signage <br />INTERPRETIVE FACILITIES <br />Development: <br />Native American interpretive plaque <br />ROADS AND PARKING <br />Development: <br />Bituminous parking lot including security lighting <br />Page 12-16 <br />
